About Us
History of the Ancient Order of Hibernians:
- The AOH was founded in Ireland in 1565 in order to protect the Catholic clergy in the performance of their duties during those days of religious persecution initiated by the English government.
- The AOH was organized in America in New York City in May 1836.
- In 1897 Erie County has 12 divisions, more than any other county in New York State.
- The "Queen City of the Lakes," as Division One was then known, was organized on February 9th, 1980.
- The name of Division One was changed to Thomas W. Carroll Erie County Division One in honor of our founder in June of 1997.
